A Christmas display inspired by ‘Home Alone’ captures the essence of 90s nostalgia
Conway, Arkansas – As the countdown to Christmas draws near, many families find that their holiday experience is not truly complete without indulging in classic movies.
A family in Conway, Arkansas has transformed one of the season’s most beloved films into a grand Christmas celebration.
Angie Howard, Tim Howard, and their eight children have turned their home into a striking replica of the house from Home Alone, making it easy to imagine Kevin McCallister’s iconic scream echoing through the halls.
The home features an exterior that closely mirrors the original design, enhanced by a creative holiday display that has transformed it into a popular Christmas attraction.
The Howard residence, situated on Bay Hill in Conway, stands out prominently. A destination where the spirit of Christmas and the enchantment of cinema come together.
“Whenever we would go by this house, we always referred to it as the Home Alone house,” Angie Howard remarked.
The Howard family’s residence closely resembles the one featured in the classic 1990 movie, but a significant choice made three years prior guided them to their vacation home.
The Howards had intentions to relocate out of state but ultimately chose to stay in Conway to be nearer to their college-aged children.
“After examining the interior of the house, we were absolutely taken with it,” Angie Howard remarked. “We made the decision to purchase this house, but we questioned, ‘Should we paint the brick, or leave it as is?’ I’m really happy we kept it the same, because it wouldn’t feel like the Home Alone house otherwise.
A handful of wreaths on the windows evolved into a commitment to wholeheartedly adopt a theme, transforming the house into a scene straight out of a holiday film.
Angie designed the displays and painted the decorations showcased in their home, while Tim arranged the props and set up the movie projections.
“Our initial focus was on the Marv and Harry van, and it requires a significant amount of effort,” Angie Howard stated. “Creating each prop, whether it’s drawing, cutting, or painting, requires approximately 12 to 15 hours. Despite the scale of the movie, there seems to be a limited amount of merchandise available.”
Clever references in the movie feature Old Man Marley wielding his shovel, along with Harry and Marv’s van and the distinctive burn marks they leave behind. A Michael Jordan cutout was even placed in the window, showcasing attention to detail.
The similarity to the original residence, along with references to the film, has ignited a whirlwind of activity on social media.
“It’s a bit unusual to have people outside your house all the time, but it’s really enjoyable,” Tim Howard remarked.
The display draws in visitors from near and far, inviting them to revel in the festive nostalgia of the season. Several visitors took to social media to share their experiences, playing a significant role in the increasing popularity.
Angie Howard stated, “In total, the house has garnered over a million views on TikTok.” “It’s truly humbling to see that our cutouts and our home have resonated with so many. I’m incredibly grateful that people find it enjoyable to share this experience with their families.”
Angie, Tim, and their eight children take great pleasure in witnessing the happiness their displays create. They’ve even enhanced the experience by introducing a scavenger hunt, making it more engaging for everyone involved.
Tim Howard stated, “We created a small game that allows visitors to search for items in the display and earn points.” “Our goal is to create an engaging experience that allows people to appreciate it rather than merely passing by.”
The Howards are already looking ahead to Christmas 2025, with a strong focus on preserving the essence of the Christmas classic.
“We’re aiming to remain true to the film, but we need to figure out how to organize all this material since our attic is nearly full,” Angie Howard stated. “We enjoy having people visit, so this is our rightful place, and this is our purpose.”
The Howard family’s house, inspired by Home Alone, demonstrates that holiday memories can be created without spending money; instead, they stem from a touch of creativity and a great deal of heart.
“Our house is spacious, accommodating our large family, and we also cherish the presence of our extended family.” According to Tim Howard.
