Annual Boards & Commissions Openings

Conway, Arkansas – Interested individuals in any of the boards listed may be self-nominated or be nominated by another person. Interested Individuals must live within the city limits of Conway or the Conway territorial jurisdiction and be willing to attend all meetings. Nominations for all boards must be in writing on the nomination form.

Anyone interested in being a part of any of the boards/commissions stated above may submit the nomination form during regular business hours (Mon. – Fri. 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.) at the City Municipal Building located at 1111 Main Street.

Due to the current health pandemic, we encourage individuals to email their application to felicia.rogers@conwayarkansas.gov or denise.hurd@conwayarkansas.gov or drop off applications in the drop box located in the front of City Hall.

The deadline is Monday, Nov. 2, 2020

Conway Planning Commission

2 available positions / 5 year term

The Conway Planning Commission is accepting nominations for two positions on the Conway Planning Commission. The new commissioners will serve a five-year term and will become part of the ten-person Planning Commission, which hears requests and makes recommendations to the City Council concerning zoning, conditional uses, annexations, and the moving of buildings. The Commission also reviews changes to the zoning, subdivision, and other planning related ordinances, develops master plans for the orderly growth and development of the City of Conway, and reviews and approves subdivisions and replats of land. The Commission meets at 7 p.m. on the third Monday of each month, unless scheduled otherwise. Commissioners may also attend occasional committee meetings. Past members of the Planning Commission that have been off the Commission for at least 5 years may be nominated. The nominating committee of the Planning Commission will schedule interviews with each nominee. The nominating committee will then make recommendations to the full Planning Commission, which will then make recommendations to the City Council.

Historic District Commission

2 available positions/ 3 year term

The Historic District Commission is accepting nominations for two positions on the board. One position is an at-large position, and the other must represent the Historic Pine Street Neighborhood. Each member shall demonstrate a positive interest in historic preservation, architecture, history, urban or regional planning, building rehabilitation, real estate, or preservation, or conservation in general. Members typically meet the fourth Monday of each month or when necessary.

Bicycle & Pedestrian Advisory Board

5 available positions/ 3 year term

The Bicycle & Pedestrian Advisory Board is accepting nominations for five open positions on the board. The open positions are for Bicycle Advocacy Organization members, a community member, and a Conway Schools Representative. The mission of the Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Board (BPAB) is to work with the city of Conway to recommend ways the city can remain 1) an official Bicycle-Friendly Community as designated by the League of American Bicyclists, 2) an official Walk-Friendly Community as designated by the UNC Highway Safety Research Center and the Pedestrian and Bicycle Information Center, and 3) a community that seeks to achieve the federal and state goals of the Safe Routes to Schools program. The Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Board normally meets on the third Thursday of every month.

Robinson Cemetery Board

1 available position / 5 year term

The Robinson Cemetery Board has one open position. The board is currently looking for someone who is interested in helping to preserve local history at the Robinson Cemetery located in the Historic Pine Street Neighborhood. Board members are sometimes asked to go in the field to show visitors around, but duties otherwise related to the general operation of the facility. The Robinson Cemetery Board establishes policies and provides some assistance in the cemetery’s upkeep and record preservation. The board typically meets quarterly or when necessary.

Public Art Board

1 available position/ 4 year term

The Public Art Board has one open position on the board for an Art Professional. The Public Art Board was created to ensure the continually developing and updating for the implementation of public art and directing resources toward the placement of public art throughout Conway. This member shall demonstrate a positive interest in the field of art and will be willing to participate in local community events, such as EcoFest & ArtsFest. Members typically meet the second Wednesday each month.

Conway Tree Board
3 available positions / 3 year term

The Conway Tree Board has three open positions. This board was created to assist the community and to preserve and enhance the natural beauty of Conway, to protect the health and safety of the residents of Conway, and to protect the environment by providing the development of a Community Forest Management Plan for the regulation of the planting, maintenance, removal, and protection of trees on public property within the City of Conway. The Tree Board is responsible for the annual Arbor Day festival held in Laurel Park. The Conway Tree Board usually meets the first Monday of each month at the Faulkner County Extension Office.

Airport Advisory Committee

2 available positions / 4 year term

The Airport Advisory Committee has two open positions for a licensed pilot. This board was created to provide advice and guidance to the Mayor, Airport Operator (Fixed Base Operator or City Airport Manager), and the City Council on airport management, operations, facilities, equipment, planning, and other areas as needed for the efficient operations of the airport. The Airport Advisory Committee usually meets monthly at the Conway Airport at 3 p.m.

Diversity Council

Multiple Positions & Length of Terms: Multi-year

The Diversity Council is a newly created board by the City of Conway, staffed by the Diversity & Economic Development Coordinator. The Diversity Council brings together Conway citizens from diverse backgrounds to foster dialogue and establish steps & actions that nurture relationships and promote a positive sense of culture & community in the City of Conway. The new members will each serve multi-year terms. The Council will meet monthly, and all terms will start in January 2021.
