Arkansas port project to receive $6 million

Little Rock, Arkansas – The U.S. Department of Transportation said on Friday that it will be investing more than $6 million in a project to upgrade port infrastructure in Arkansas.

Improvements include the installation of a water tower to support industrial purposes and firefighting systems in the port that can survive the seismic effects of earthquakes in the New Madrid fault area, according to a release from the U.S. Department of Transportation.

The Helena Harbor Transportation Enhancement Development Project will be funded in part by a sum totaling $6,412,652. This sum will pay for two project components.

The Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, sponsored by President Biden, provides billions of dollars to upgrade ports of all sizes and help Americans lower expenses.

“So many of the goods we all count on, from appliances to furniture to clothes, move through our nation’s ports on their way to us,” said U.S. Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg. “Using funds from President Biden’s Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, this year we’re awarding record levels of funding to improve our port infrastructure, strengthen our supply chains, and help cut costs for American families.”
