Little Rock, Arkansas – Through interstate traffic stops this year, the Arkansas State Police (ASP) has seized more than 4,000 pounds of illicit marijuana.

In the past week, the ASP Interstate Criminal Patrol (ICP) has conducted several traffic stops on I-40, resulting in the search and seizure of one gun and 886 pounds of illegal substances.

State police arrested six different cars carrying illegal cannabis between April 25 and May 3.

One station was in Conway County, and the other five were in Lonoke County. Each automobile was found to have between 31 and 300 pounds of cannabis.

“ASP’s ICP team is strongly committed to ensuring the safety and security of the state’s highways, and their success in intercepting massive amounts of illegal drugs in less than two weeks is a testament to their dedication,” said ASP Colonel Mike Hagar. “Efforts like these are crucial in maintaining public safety and preventing destructive illegal activity in our communities.”

The public is invited to provide feedback on the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration’s proposal to reclassify cannabis from Schedule I to Schedule III status.

Drugs classified as Schedule III are still illegal, and traffickers may still be prosecuted for their crimes.
