Arkansas’s political authorities are opposing cryptocurrency mining
Cabot, Arkansas – The topic of cryptocurrency mining is currently trending once more. But this time, the parliamentarians and local authorities have been raising their concerns rather than the people themselves.
State and Cabot city officials declared their objection to Interstate Holdings Blockchain’s proposal to construct a crypto-mine behind Little Rock Air Force Base on Wednesday.
Senator Ricky Hill of the Republic State stated that there is no financial gain in establishing a cryptocurrency mine in the Cabot region.
“We must ask ourselves, is it worth jeopardizing our safety, our economy, and our reputation to host a facility that brings no benefits to this area whatsoever,” Hill said.
In his speech, Cabot Mayor Ken Kincade outlined the main arguments for why crypto-mines pose a threat to the environment and the local population.
“These facilities generate a lot of noise and pollution, which harms our people, pets, wildlife, the environment, and our general well-being. “This is unacceptable,” Mayor Kincade continued.
According to Senator Hill, the issue is far more significant than that. According to him, the threat is greater at the suggested site.
The plant is fewer than five miles from our air base; why did they choose it? “This poses a threat to national security,” Hill stated.
During the meeting on Wednesday, Lonoke County Judge Doug Erwin declared that he had issued a cease-and-desist order to the firm in question in an attempt to halt the prospective crypto mine.
“The law allows them to pursue this, but to put in a facility, they had to follow certain guidelines which have not been fulfilled at this point,” Judge Erwin clarified.
But there’s still one question. Will these political figures change their minds if the firm does eventually comply? According to Mayor Kincade, he will support his community and act in their best interests during this process.
“We will join with our neighbors, Lonoke County, and our state senators and our representatives and legally do anything within our power to remove this from our community,” he stated.
All operations have been suspended for the time being. We have not yet received a response to our repeated requests for comment from Interstate Blockchain Holdings.
