As a winter storm approaches, the Arkansas State Police advise being cautious and to “consider staying home”
Little Rock, Arkansas – The Arkansas State Police are advising drivers to think about staying at home if the extreme cold, rain, or snow make driving on the interstate dangerous as Sunday’s predicted winter storm draws near.
According to ASP, if you must drive, please keep in mind to slow down, give the car in front of you more space, and apply the brakes earlier than usual. Everyone using the highways will be more safe if these guidelines are followed.
If you must travel, the police advise you to think about bringing an emergency kit containing additional clothes, blankets, water, non-perishable food, and first aid supplies.
To help drivers in need, troopers will be there in large numbers. For non-emergency calls, use ASP (277) to connect to the nearest troop.
Across the state, ASP maintains 12 Troop headquarters, each outfitted with a dedicated communications dispatch center and manned by personnel. Here is a map that shows the locations of troop headquarters, the counties that each troop monitors, and how to get in touch with them.
*ASP is a four-digit speed dial feature implemented in January of 2022. It is available on any AT&T, T-Mobile, or Verizon cellphone operating in Arkansas. Calls sent to *ASP should be limited to non-emergency inquiries or reports. The nationwide standard 9-1-1 remains the primary telephone number to use when law enforcement or emergency services are needed. Calls routed through the 9-1-1 network will take priority over *ASP calls.
