Next week, an arctic front is projected to move into Arkansas, bringing with it freezing temperatures
Little Rock, Arkansas – The weather pattern will drastically change by Sunday, therefore Arkansans should take advantage of the calm conditions until Saturday.
On Sunday afternoon, a cold front is expected to move over the state. The cold front will be preceded by warm, humid air, which will create the conditions for a few storms that may be severe or strong.
Temperatures might reach well into the 60s on Sunday, with regions east and south of Little Rock having the most risk of severe weather, which is currently rare. If sufficient storm fuel is available, any storm can intensify to its full potential and create destructive winds, hail, and [or] a tornado.
Since there isn’t much storm fuel anticipated, there isn’t much chance of a tornado right now. According to the most recent Storm Prediction Center forecast, which was released Friday morning, there is a chance of severe weather from Arkansas all the way to Louisiana and Mississippi.
Temperatures will rapidly drop from the 60s at 1 p.m. on Sunday to the low 30s by Sunday night once the cold front moves through.
The chilly air mass will be brought in through Sunday night and Monday by gusting winds of 15 to 30 mph from the north and northwest. Monday morning temperatures are predicted to be in the low to mid-20s.
It will feel as though the temperature is in the teens and single digits to start the day when you mix those cold readings with the blustery winds.
For most of next week, Arkansas will be affected by the cold snap. For the Ozark and higher elevations, temperatures may not even rise above freezing from Monday through Wednesday.
Make sure your outdoor faucets are covered and protected since some exposed pipes may freeze.
It is unlikely that there will be any winter weather over the next seven days.
Any remaining moisture behind the front may turn into a few snowflakes on Sunday evening or Sunday night. No effects are anticipated at this time.
As a heads up, ice and snow are likely to have a major impact on winter weather if you are heading north in Missouri on Sunday and Monday.
From Wednesday through Friday, we will keep an eye out for another chance of winter weather, but for now, there is little reason to be optimistic. Although there isn’t much consensus among models regarding the outcome, the pattern does favor a possibility when frigid air is present.
