Poinsett County Judge resigns after six years
Arkansas – Poinsett County Judge Bob Cantrell is stepping down from his position at the end of the year.
We told you Monday that Cantrell submitted his resignation during the quorum court meeting Monday night.
On Thursday, Cantrell told Conway Todays it was just time to move on.
“I’m leaving the same way I got here. I prayed about it, God gave me permission to leave, the county set a date for me and that’s exactly what I’m doing,” said Cantrell.
Cantrell took over as County Judge in 2014.
He says when he became judge, the road department had very little equipment to work with.
Over the last six years, he’s been able to add on eight graders and five new trucks, as well as other equipment.
“The county was in bad shape whenever I got here. Didn’t have a county shop, didn’t have hardly any tools to work with and it had been run down,” said Cantrell. “I feel like in my six years here I’ve done a good job for the county and it’s just time for me to go home and do something else.”
Judge Cantrell said he’s grateful he’s been able to make so much progress during his time with the county, and he hopes to see that growth continues with the next judge.
“I would hope that the people on that committee would be very selective and get someone that has a heart to work, not just sit behind this desk.”
Cantrell’s last day as county judge will be Dec. 31.
