Renovation of the old Little Rock VA hospital into apartments is expected to be finished next year, according to the contractor
Little Rock, Arkansas – While driving through downtown Little Rock, you may observe some changes.
The old VA hospital is now illuminated as new apartments are under construction on the site.
This is a narrative we’ve been tracking for over a year. The contractor has announced that the project is nearing completion.
“Our decisions were constantly evolving, as a project of this nature resembles a blank canvas,” remarked Pace Burt, the contractor for the apartments.
The upcoming residential development will be named The Flats at SOMA. Burt led the project, and starting it was no simple feat.
The project has been underway for a considerable period. Burt stated, “We faced numerous environmental challenges while cleaning and preparing the building for renovations.”
The project, valued at $35 million, has seen the completion of floors 6 through 11, with walls and accents now finalized.
The apartments showcase hand-painted islands, enhancing each unit with a striking green tile backsplash. Every unit features over a dozen windows.
“They possess a contemporary style.” Burt remarked, “They retain a touch of that industrial vibe with the original concrete floors.”
Available floor plans include options from 1 bedroom to 3 bedrooms, with prices ranging from $1,000 to $1,600.
The amenities feature a pool, sauna, swim spa, and a “gear garage” stocked with outdoor items available for rent, perfect for biking, camping, and hiking adventures.
A karaoke room and pickleball courts are also anticipated to be included.
“Our focus is on health, as that’s the trend in multi-family projects,” stated Burt. He anticipates that construction will wrap up within the next 60 to 90 days.
