Seventh-grader from Walnut Ridge received recognition for contributing to the creation of the new city flag

Walnut Ridge, Arkansas – “Not a lot of kids my age get to do that, so I enjoyed it.”
Walnut Ridge residents gathered to commemorate the city’s 150th anniversary in front of a packed house. On Saturday, January 13, a group of people, including Mayor Charles Snapp and members of the Walnut Ridge High School Band, had a tour of the newly renovated Fire Station #3 and had some birthday cake.
Reid Martin, a seventh-grader in the Lawrence Country School District, received praise and an award for his contribution to the creation of the new 150th city flag. He was given a 150th-anniversary coin, along with several other community members, in recognition of their contributions to the development of the city.
“It’s pretty cool,” Martin said. “They gave it to me because me and my art teacher designed the flag, the shirt, and the coin.”
This is just the start of a year-long celebration, according to the mayor.
