Voters approve a millage increase to construct a new high school

Corning, Arkansas – Following the approval of a millage increase on March 5, construction of a new high school by the Northeast Arkansas School District will commence.
The final unofficial voting results showed that the Corning School District’s proposed 5.0 millage increase was approved 606-237.
According to Jennifer Woolard, the superintendent of schools, the current high school is dilapidated. The 1967-built structure has experienced flooding, electrical, and plumbing problems recently.
The superintendent believes that a new structure will fix those issues.
“I’m dying to be tickled,” Just a quick thank you to everyone in our district. We encourage our customers to help our children and the community, and they came out tonight and overwhelmingly supported it, according to Woolard.
According to Woolard, the district has not requested a millage hike in 17 years.
The school intends to start looking for a contractor to start construction by the upcoming winter.
